The gift from overseas never existed

Romance scam · Facebook · United Kingdom

I met him on Facebook Dating in Liverpool. He said he was widowed, lonely and finally ready to try again. He wrote beautifully, always knew the right thing to say and never came across as rushed.

After a couple of weeks he told me he wanted to send me something meaningful, a bracelet that had belonged to his mother. Then came the message that the parcel had been held up and needed a customs payment. It was not a huge amount at first, just low enough to sound almost believable.

When I refused, his tone shifted. Not aggressive, just disappointed in a very calculated way. Soon after that I got messages from a fake courier and a fake customer service number. That was when the whole thing collapsed. The gift had only ever been part of the story.
