Alberta: Bear Spray Used in Robbery During Facebook Marketplace Deal

A person has been charged after using bear spray to rob the victim of a transaction arranged through Facebook Marketplace.
On March 4th, in Strathcona County, Alberta, a transaction arranged through Facebook Marketplace went badly wrong. It wasn't until months later, in July, that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced someone had been charged in connection with the case.
What sets this case apart from other similar robberies is the weapon used — not a gun or a knife, but bear spray, deployed directly on the victim at the moment of exchange. The intended effect is the same as in any armed robbery: instantly disable the person on the other side, stop them from reacting or resisting — but the method itself is a departure from the usual scenarios.
The precise circumstances surrounding the charge, along with the full identities of those involved, have not been made public at this stage.
This kind of variation in methods — pepper spray, a knife, a firearm, or simply a threat convincing enough on its own — is a reminder that there's no single profile for robberies tied to private sales, but rather countless variations built around the same core idea: exploiting the moment of vulnerability that the exchange itself creates for both buyer and seller.
