Louisville: Man Accused of Kidnapping and Robbing a Grindr Date

A Louisville man is accused of kidnapping and robbing someone he had met on Grindr weeks earlier.
A connection made on Grindr back in July. A meeting, weeks later. And then, according to Louisville, Kentucky authorities, everything turns: the victim ends up held against his will, then robbed by the very person he thought he'd gotten to know online.
According to the arrest citation reviewed by investigators, events unfolded in stages, with the online relationship apparently used to build trust that was later exploited. The suspect has since been arrested and now faces charges of kidnapping and robbery.
This kind of case isn't an isolated one. Very similar patterns have surfaced in the UK and Belgium, where multiple separate investigations uncovered individuals deliberately using dating apps aimed at gay men to trap victims rather than form a genuine connection — cases British authorities have, in some instances, treated as potential hate crimes.
