Bavaria: Luxury Watch Seller Beaten and Robbed After Kleinanzeigen Contact

A German seller was beaten and robbed of several valuable watches after letting a buyer he'd contacted through the Kleinanzeigen listings platform into his home.
Contact had been made through Kleinanzeigen, Germany's largest classifieds platform. An interested buyer, a few messages back and forth, then a proposal to come see the watches in person — a request that, for an item of this value, might have seemed entirely reasonable.
The seller let the man into his home in Murnau am Staffelsee, Bavaria. It was inside his own apartment that things turned: the buyer pulled out a firearm, demanded the watches, then struck the seller repeatedly in the head before fleeing with his haul.
Police immediately launched a large-scale operation to track down the suspect, deploying a helicopter and federal police. Despite the effort, the man, described as being between 30 and 40 years old, remained at large as of the first reports on the case.
The case is a reminder of a specific risk tied to arranging home visits for very high-value items: unlike meeting in a public place, the victim is literally letting a stranger into their home based on nothing more than an exchange of messages online.
