Spanish authorities arrested a 20-year-old man suspected of arranging Grindr meetups to rob victims, with investigators also treating the case as hate-motivated violence against LGBT people.

Spanish authorities have arrested a 20-year-old man in El Ejido, Almería, in connection with a series of violent robberies allegedly arranged through the dating app Grindr. According to the investigation, the suspect contacted victims through the platform, set up meetings and then used physical and verbal violence to steal their belongings.

Investigators say at least three men reported being attacked between late 2025 and January 2026 in the Las Norias de Daza area. The Guardia Civil believes the suspect deliberately used the app to target men in situations of vulnerability before assaulting and robbing them.

The case is also being treated as involving anti-LGBT hate motivation. Authorities said the suspect allegedly shouted insults and degrading expressions at the victims during the attacks, which investigators consider evidence that the violence was partly driven by hostility toward the LGBT community.

Police also linked the suspect to an alleged offence against privacy and image rights. One victim discovered that his personal photos had been reused without permission in fake profiles on the same platform, images the suspect is believed to have used.

The court in El Ejido ordered the suspect’s pre-trial detention. Investigators say the operation remains open because there may be more victims and are encouraging anyone who experienced similar incidents to come forward and file a complaint.
