In the United States, a 24-year-old man was arrested in Oregon after an investigation alleging that he met a victim through Tinder before incidents involving accusations including rape and strangulation.

A new case in the United States is highlighting once again how meetings arranged through dating apps can allegedly escalate into very serious violence. According to KATU, detectives in Clackamas County, Oregon, arrested a 24-year-old man from Oak Grove as part of an investigation involving multiple serious charges, including first-degree rape, strangulation, fourth-degree assault and menacing.

Authorities say the investigation found that the adult female victim had allegedly met the suspect through the Tinder mobile dating app. Investigators also suspect that he may have used the dating app Pure as well. The suspect is additionally facing charges related to providing liquor to a person under 21 or to an intoxicated person, as well as unlawful delivery of marijuana.

The report says he is being held in the Clackamas County Jail with bail set at 500,000 dollars. Detectives are concerned that there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information about possible related criminal activity to contact the sheriff’s office.

In this case, the sheriff’s office also released the suspect’s booking photo in an effort to help identify possible additional criminal conduct. Authorities said that step was taken because they believe there may be further victims and cited Oregon law allowing such a release in those circumstances.

The case is another reminder that an ordinary-looking profile on a dating platform does not guarantee safety. Behind a quick online connection, an invitation or a private meeting, there can sometimes be alleged violence that only becomes visible once a victim is isolated.
