UK man convicted after using fake Tinder profile to send strangers to ex-partner’s home

A UK man has been convicted of stalking after prosecutors said he created fake Tinder profiles using his former partner’s identity and sent strangers to her address.
A disturbing stalking case in the United Kingdom has shown how a fake dating profile can be used to create real-world danger for a victim.
According to NDTV and Cheshire Police, Asad Hussain, 36, from Cheadle in Greater Manchester, was found guilty after a nine-day trial at Chester Crown Court. He is due to be sentenced in June.
The court heard that Hussain first contacted the victim in 2024 using the false identity “Mick Renney”. The relationship later became increasingly controlling, and after the breakup he continued trying to reach the victim and people close to her.
Investigators said Hussain then created fake Tinder profiles using the woman’s identity. The profiles sent strangers to her home under false and highly dangerous pretences. At least 18 men reportedly went to the address after believing they had been invited there through the fake account.
Some incidents created immediate risk inside or around the home. Reports said one man damaged part of the front door, while another entered the property when the woman was not there and her teenage daughter was upstairs.
Police eventually linked the false identity to Hussain through evidence including vehicles, phones and movements near the victim’s home when the profile was active. Cheshire Police described the case as one of the most disturbing it had handled.
This case is a brutal reminder that identity misuse on dating apps is not only about embarrassment or online harassment. A fake profile can expose victims to stalking, sexual danger, threats, intimidation and physical harm.
