United States: man charged after alleged sexual assault linked to Tinder date in Plainfield

In the United States, a Massachusetts man was charged with sexual assault and unlawful restraint after an alleged assault involving a woman he had met on Tinder in Plainfield, Connecticut.
A case reported in local U.S. media has drawn attention to the risks that can arise from meetings arranged through dating apps. According to court documents cited by CT Insider, a 30-year-old man from Auburn, Massachusetts, was charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a 23-year-old woman he had met on Tinder about a week earlier.
Investigators say the alleged assault took place at the woman’s home in Plainfield, Connecticut, during their second in-person meeting on June 20, 2024. The complainant told police that she repeatedly told him to stop. Court records cited by the outlet say she reported the incident shortly afterward, provided a sworn written statement and showed officers text messages sent after he left.
According to the same documents, a sexual assault examination later found male DNA. Police also spent months trying to contact the suspect and move the case forward, including multiple phone attempts and coordination with authorities in Massachusetts. After those efforts failed to produce progress, investigators moved ahead with an arrest warrant and renewed legal steps.
The man was arrested on April 9, 2026 and charged with first-degree sexual assault and first-degree unlawful restraint. Court records cited by CT Insider say he was released on bond and was scheduled to be arraigned on April 22. The case is another reminder that meetings initiated on dating platforms can carry serious safety risks when boundaries are ignored or violence is alleged.
