He sold me a future before he asked for money

Money scam · Bumble · United States

I met him on Bumble in New York. He gave off quiet finance guy energy without trying too hard. Clean clothes, soft voice, always composed. At first it did not even feel romantic. It felt stable, which is probably why I trusted him.

He started talking about a property in Brooklyn like we were building something together. An auction, a broker, deadlines, paperwork. Every step sounded practical instead of emotional. Then came the first cashier’s check, then a transfer, then another because the top bidder had supposedly dropped out.

The moment everything cracked was tiny. I found an ID with a different name and then mail that did not match his story. After that the whole polished version of him started peeling off piece by piece. Losing money hurt, but realizing the man I had been planning around was basically a costume hurt more.
