I met him on Bumble and he played the role perfectly. Clean clothes soft voice finance guy energy without trying too hard. He talked about real estate like he had done this his whole life. At first it didn’t even feel romantic exactly. It felt stable. That might have been the trick.

The scam didn’t start with send me money. It started with a future.

He talked about a property in Brooklyn like we were building something together. An auction a broker paperwork deadlines. He made it sound practical not emotional. Like I was lucky to have met someone who actually knew what he was doing. First it was a cashier’s check then more wiring because the top bidder supposedly dropped out. Every step had just enough detail to keep me from stepping back.

The moment everything cracked was small. I found ID with a different name then more mail then the whole polished version of him started peeling off piece by piece. That hurt more than the money honestly. Realizing the man I was planning around was basically a costume.
